If you want to experience Basel in a state of complete chaos, then you should be here during the carnival! Most of ”die drey scheenschte Dääg”, ”the three most beautiful days” as carnival time is known here in Basel, happens out in the open-air. During the day the ”cliques” march through town in their elaborate costumes, with their drummers and Piccolo players as part of the ”Cortège” procession. In the evenings, the ”Fasnächtler” wander through the narrow alleyways and fill the historic centre with the sound of their melodies.
It is no coincidence that those in the know consider Basel’s Fasnacht as one of the most impressive carnivals in the world – for precisely 72 hours chaos takes over the entire city. The Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois is the perfect starting point for experiencing the ”Morgestraich”, the ”Cortège” and all the many other carnival events live.
